Dear AAS members,

I am very excited to invite you to participate this year in Giving Tuesday on November 27th. The Clinical Division has been extremely engaged in a couple of very exciting projects this year and I would like to ask you to join me in celebrating these efforts through this year’s Giving Tuesday, which will help the AAS Clinical Division to push even further!

This year the Clinical Division has taken the initiative to invite physicians and other medical professionals to participate in AAS through Dr. Loice Swisher’s leadership in developing the Physicians Suicide Awareness Working Group! This is an exciting development to serve the needs of physicians and also to help them as they address the enormous influence they have in treating suicidal patients. Dr. Swisher has been a leader nationally in developing the 2018 National Physician Suicide Awareness Day and AAS is very fortunate to have her as a member and leader in this effort!

Additionally, the AAS Clinical Division has been engaged in developing capacity for suicide prevention in faith communities. Many public health organizations and crisis centers have long recognized the opportunity to do meaningful suicide prevention in these communities of faith. There is real excitement about the potential for inviting faith communities of all kinds into the AAS umbrella, as we develop content and capacity for this initiative. AAS led the charge among suicide prevention organizations in its support of the  2018 National Weekend of Prayer for Faith, Hope, and Life and is grateful for the activism of our high profile members, such as Kay Warren and Saddleback Church’s efforts to support National Suicide Prevention Week.

The AAS Clinical Division is an umbrella that represents an amazing diversity of those in the helping professions who care deeply about preventing and intervening when an individual is at risk for suicide. We are also a group deeply committed to helping and caring for those individuals who are left behind in the wake of suicide. I invite you to join me in supporting AAS’ amazing efforts as we participate in this year’s Giving Thursday!

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season!
